Listen/purchase: Sore Throat by Jackass Penguins

This is one of a few songs that I wrote based on an actual experience I had. I went camping at Camp Pendleton with my friend who was in the Navy on leave and his fiance. It got crazy after dark and a guy got arrested for DUI for being drunk and having his keys in the ignition of a parked car that was blasting Sublime. He wasn’t even in the car at the time. I didn’t know they could do that. I also almost got in trouble for burning a pallet. They told me to put it out, but that’s impossible with all the chemicals in there.

Lyrics:

I took a trip with my two friends down to the beach
I know that half the girls I see are out of reach
We set up camp we settled down I caught some waves
Late afternoon reflections blinded by the rays

A holiday
Some time away
The crashing waves
At end of day

And through the night the reggae blasted through the tent
The fires blazed the people dazed self-evident
Dixie cups filled high with beer and yellow piss
They were passing around a pipe and flashing tits

A holiday
Some time away
An olive haze
At end of day

At around two the cops arrived and people knew
The night was over and the jubilance was through
I lay alone with a sore throat from singing blues
I fall asleep inside my tent and listen to

The crashing waves
At end of day
I go to face
A holiday
