Listen/purchase: Avocado Hwy. by Jackass Penguins
This song was written in the spring of 2001. It was inspired by two beautiful drives I took. One was on Lilac Road in northern San Diego County, and the other was a visit to Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge. There were many flowers in bloom, and I took many photos of them.
Lyrics:
Just got back from heaven
Cherry tree’s on fire
All my life I’ve waited for this ocean gyre
Every time I wake up
I think of how you smile
Avocado Highway bends
We drive a little while
Through the lilacs and the trees
Though the camera’s Japanese
We can savor this parade
Live to see another day
And the ocean opens up
And it scatters all my dreams
We can savor this parade
Live to see another day
Just got my own angel
She’s too drunk to fly
She broke up with a waiter south of Riverside
Caught me staring at her
Just enough to cry
Wiped her tears and sat her down
She looked into my eyes
