-Didn’t see live, but was in the vicinity-
I was at a record signing for the Pretenders at Licorice Pizza at La Cumbre Mall in Santa Barbara and met the band when I was 10 months old or so. I don’t remember it, but Chrissie said I was going to be a drummer. I guess I was banging on the table.
Should have been at the Where The Streets Have No Name video shoot, but U2 started early thanks to the LAPD and I missed it by an hour. People were still hanging out at the corner in downtown LA when I got there.
I had an email exchange with Brian Kehew of The Moog Cookbook sometime around 1999.
I camped at the next campsite over from Gyl Bonus, guitar player for The B Foundation. I haven’t seen them live, but I hear it’s a great show.
I had a ticket to see Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes with Fu Manchu in Irvine in 2000, but Jimmy cancelled the tour. Technically, I have seen both bands, so this should not be in this section.
Was invited to the recording of the live section of the “Enemies” EP by Frank Jordan, but I had to work my shift at Kmart. I should have gone.
A friend offered to give me his ticket and could have made it to the last half of a Pearl Jam concert in Irvine, but was too lazy. I should have gone.
Back to Santa Barbara, Bob Marley & the Wailers played a concert and I was in the same city at the same time but I was 3 months old or some shit. I wish I could have gone.

Wrestling great Booker T performs “spectacular” citizen arrest during armed robbery [January 22nd, 2015]
HOUSTON, Texas (AP) -Employees of a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant in the Texan suburb of South Houston have today spoken about their relief to see former world wrestling great, Booker “Booker T” Huffman, subdue a lone gunman during an attempted robbery of the outlet on Tuesday evening.
It’s believed Mr Huffman, a former WWE wrestler and current commentator, was a patron of the restaurant with his wife, Sharmell and his three children – when an armed male entered the venue with a ski-mask covering his face and demanded money from staff at the register.
Andrew Torres, an 18-year old employee of the South Houston diner, says it was like he was watching the wrestling as a young boy all over again.
“I mean, Booker was sitting down with his family… You know, being a normal customer – but then this guy came in with a gun and all of a sudden he’s pointing it at my face and telling me he wants money,” says Torres, who was working the front counter at the time of the hold-up.
“It was really scary because the diner was at full capacity… but when the guy in the mask came in, it went completely silent. I was in complete shock – I couldn’t even move my arms,”
“It was a bizarre experience because the gunman wanted money but I was so terrified I couldn’t move – and he knew that… no one else is the diner was doing anything. It was like we were paused in time… Until I heard a familiar voice shouting from the back corner of the diner.”
Torres has said that “Booker T” Huffman had removed his shirt and began shouting his iconic WWE catch-cry “Can you dig it? Sucker?!” before sprinting across the room and performing a signature wrestling maneuver on the attempted robber.
“Mr Huffman stood on the table and removed his shirt, before bounding across the restaurant, table to table. He was flying through the air and his ‘locs’ [dreadlocks] were going everywhere. He scissor-kicked the robber and knocked him out cold! He was flying so high in the air that his waist was in line with the gunman’s head,” says Ms Tampico, who despite being very thankful for Booker T’s actions, wasn’t entirely sure who he was at the time.
“After he had immobilised the threat – all of the customers in the restaurant cheered and started dancing. I had never heard of ‘Booker T’ before, but apparently everyone else had. They formed a circle around him and he did some sort of breakdancing move on top of the unconscious gunman,”
“It really was spectacular. My employees say it was just like on the television – he did his famous “scissor kick” to subdue the gunman and followed it up with what they call “The Spinaroonie” (breakdancing maneuver).”
Local police are yet to comment publicly, however they have confirmed that Mr Huffman is helping them with their investigation, while the gunman has been taken into custody. Huffman has stated that he will not be commenting until police inquiries are complete. [x]

Listen/purchase: Topic of the Day by Jackass Penguins
This little gem from 2002 is kind of like Jackass Penguins’ “The Crunge” in that it’s a funky little song with no meaning and the “lyrics” were spewed out during the recording. Well, I guess there are a few songs that would fit into that category, but this one also has the distinction of being the closest I will ever sound to Anthony Kiedis.

I was tagged by misterlettuce
“You can tell a lot about a person from the music they listen to. Put your music device on shuffle and post the first 10 songs that play without skipping. Tag 10 people afterwards.”

- The Beastie Boys “Railroad Blues”

Feel free to do this, because I refuse to tag people… that causes pressure and expectations… even though this is fun.
I wasn’t tagged, but this sounds too fun to pass up.

2. Frenzal Rhomb “My Pants Keep Falling Down”
3. The Black Crowes “Descending”
4. Bob Marley and the Wailers “Them Belly Full (Live at the Stanley)”

Listen/purchase: I’ve Never Known This by Jackass Penguins
I should record this song again. This version is from 1998, recorded during the Pornucopia sessions. The drums and guitar sound good, but the lyrics are barely audible. That is probably why I decided to omit it from the album.
