Hash Pipe Controversy

Here’s how I understand the chorus:

Come on and kick me/come on and kick me/you got your problems/I got my asswipe/you got your big cheese/I got my hash pipe

It makes sense this way, and is similar in theme to Surf Wax America’s chorus of “you take your car to work, I’ll take my board.”

Ass wide? That doesn’t even rhyme as well as asswipe.

That’s where I’m coming from and now I’m being labeled as a giant homophobe. Sometimes I wonder why I’m on this fucking website.

It’s not ass wide, it’s asswipe. Two of the gifs are from I Just Threw Away The Love Of My Dreams which is sung by a woman on the studio version. Just saying.

1. asswipe makes no sense in the context of the song… it’s ass wide… it’s a song about anal sex…

2. “i just threw out the love of my dreams” is a duet. rivers uses he/him pronouns in both the studio version and this live performance.

1. Show me the official lyrics sheet. I will save you time. None has been released. I hear asswipe. I also hear big cheese, but I see a lot of “big G’s” online. When Rivers releases the official lyrics we will know for sure. Keep in mind this song was written very quickly, so it doesn’t have to make sense.
2. The chorus is the only time Rivers sings. The same technique of male/female vocals is used by The Rentals, only this time it’s reversed with the female taking the lead.

My comments are only to point out what I see are discrepancies.

1. i don’t need an official lyrics sheet to know that “wipe” and “wide” are pronounced differently and rivers is singing wide?

2. i mean nice backpedaling but your initial comment just said “it’s sung by a woman,” and it’s not, it’s sung – as you point out in your second comment – by rachel and rivers, and rivers absolutely, 100% uses he/him pronouns in both the studio version and this live performance

idk why would you feel the need to point out these non-existent “discrepancies” if you didn’t have some issues with the fact that your fave musician records music with queer themes

Please. If that were true, I wouldn’t listen to glam or disco. How dare you accuse me of homophobia. I felt the examples I spotlighted were hollow and simply wanted to help bolster the overall theme by pointing them out. I don’t hear the same thing you do in #1 and I stand by my argument that Rachel is the lead singer and character in #2. I’m sorry that we can’t agree on everything, but listen to Brilliant Boy and try to tell me that Matt is not the lead singer and person/character of that song.
