Re-release Announcement

Tomorrow, Tuesday June 9, 2015 will be the release date for the digital version of Songs for a Lost Generation, which was recorded and released on cassette 20 years ago this month. Do not expect a satisfying album. This was recorded only a year after I had picked up guitar for the second time. You will hear me struggle as I try to play each song the whole way through. Most of Side A was recorded a second time, and the endings of first takes that ran longer than the final song are left in place. Side B has songs that were recorded in my neighbor’s bedroom and can be classified as noise. The album ends with random radio signals captured on tape. Throughout the album is the warble of the boombox as it struggles to record. There was also the use of a real microphone that was used both conventionally and also as a rudimentary electric pickup on my warped classical acoustic guitar rigged with metal strings. The guitar and my vocals are often out of tune, I was trying to thrash riffs using a pick meant for soft lullabies, and the lyrics were written by a psychopath. But it documents a time period very well, and is funny at times too.

Listen/purchase: Yes I Am Fucking You by Jackass Penguins

A song off of the self-titled album.

This month is the 20 year anniversary of our self titled album. I have been intending on creating a digital copy to mark this occasion, but it’s hard when you work and have a kid. I still plan on doing it, but it may be a little late for the actual anniversary.

Listen/purchase: Dropping Like Flies by Jackass Penguins

It’s only a solo number, but it captures the zeitgeist of 1995.

Lyrics:

Kissing in public
my mother’s there
smokers are smoking
the colored hair
piercing her eyelid
is her worst friend
I flush the homestead
a message to send

I’ll bet you’re stoned right now

A mosh pit marriage
a tired friend
a scared little carriage
a blind-corner bend
the honeymoon’s over
the reception’s fed
the honeymoon’s over
the couple dead

I’ll bet you’re stoned right now

jackasspenguins:

You may have heard Tupperware Hell on Soundcloud or our BandPage, but you probably haven’t heard this one. This is another song from the 1995 album “Interstate” featuring Alayne and The Dead Milkmen. This time, the backing track is “Vince Lombardi Service Center” off The Dead Milkmen’s classic 1986 album “Eat Your Paisley”. The song is a diss of a person we went to high school with named Dave. I can think of only one other song in our catalog that could be considered a “diss” as we were dorks who were made fun of on a regular basis. Enjoy!

I decided to repost this. It’s really one of the best songs in our catalog. I had nothing to do with it.

Listen/purchase: Pandemonia by Jackass Penguins

The title track from our first album of 1995. I was never satisfied with the sound, but this track was remastered for Dos Equis.

Listen/purchase: Mint by Jackass Penguins

This was the first song I wrote on guitar using normal tunings and chords. This version is sung by the talented Alayne. She got the first couple lyrics wrong, but I still like this version. My singing just doesn’t sound this good. She added a bass line with her keyboard as well.
