Listen/purchase: Dust by Jackass Penguins

This song was supposed to be recorded in two versions for the Oblivion album in 1999. The pop-punk version you hear here, and an acoustic, slow ballad version, which would then bookend the album, i.e., Dust to Dust. Like every other album, though, the concept was not brought to reality, and only this version was recorded. At some point I need to record the acoustic version. Enjoy this for now.

Like everything from the 1999 “Future Sound of Irwindale” EP, this song is just me screwing around with a guitar and my Casio. Listening to it now, the main riff kind of sounds like the Offspring’s Hammerhead. I also have to cringe at my stupid lyrics. The patient will be rewarded with riffs from the James Bond Theme, Rock Lobster and the Inspector Gadget theme song.

Guitar & Casio drum machine. Inspirational song inspired by Mechanical Animals-era Marilyn Manson.

Listen/purchase: U.F.O. by Jackass Penguins

A little ska punk turd nugget from 1999. With transgender and homosexual themed lyrics thrown in for good measure. How very glam of us.

I remember the first time I heard Beck. I was doing my thing in Jackass Penguins, and then Beck came onto the scene, and it was crazy. It was like what we were doing, only 1000x better. I have the utmost respect for him and his body of work. This is our stab at his breakout song.

This song, from the 1999 album “Future Sound of Irwindale”, features an amplified Casio drum track with guitar and vocals performed live. There’s a song I like better than this on the album that unfortunately got cut off because all the songs ran on longer than usual. I still have all the equipment I used to record this, and re-recording "Disappear" would be yet another project on my list. But I digress. This song has one of my favorite lyrics I ever wrote: I take a laxative, you know I’m full of shit. Enjoy!
